DECEMBER 2011 INSTRUCTOR UPDATE... One
highlight from the Christmas 2011 breakup was the presentation to Mrs
Taku Poll the title of Senior Chief Instructor as recognition of
her many years of dedication and ability in teaching Kempo at such an
exceptional level. Taku is stepping up to a more senior role in
the school in 2012. Well done Taku! Kids Martial Arts was started by Sifu Scott Forrest in October 2010. In June 2011 Scott was joined by Mrs Taku Poll, a 4th Degree Black Belt, Senior Chief Instructor with 14 years experience to help run the Murrays Bay classes. Taku has been taught directly by some of New Zealands leading Kempo Senior Masters as well as Grand Master Robert Gemmell. She has attended a large number of national Kempo seminars and events and competed in tournaments at a very high level. Taku's instructing ability was recognised in December 2011 when she received the title of Senior Chief Instructor. Mr Matthew Barry, a 1st Degree Black Belt, Instructor started teaching with us in August 2011 in Murrays Bay. Matthew has trained in Kempo for seven years, has taught many students over that time, and personally competed at the highest level. Miss Rochelle McFarlane, a 1st Degree Black Belt, Instructor who has trained over the years with both Scott and Taku started teaching with the school in October 2011. Scott began his martial arts training in 1985 at the Browns Bay Kempo Bushido Ryu Dojo under Senior Master N.Palmer. His experience includes 25 years martial arts training in Shaolin Kempo (see www.kempo.co.nz) in which he reached the level of 5th Degree Black Belt and a title of "Sifu" meaning teacher. Scott has attended well over 50 national seminars and events training directly under New Zealand Kempo Founder and Grand Master, Robert Gemmell along with many of the country's Senior Kempo Masters. Should you be looking for a full traditional martial arts training with a large variety of weaponry, extensive forms, and conditioning training along with traditional internal Chinese arts you should contact your local Robert Gemmell school. In April 2010 Scott resigned from the Shaolin Kempo martial arts school to concentrate on starting-up and running Kids Martial Arts. In November 2011 Scott was graded to 6th Degree Black Belt in Kempo by Senior Master Paul Bryant, Shihan Kevin Watts, and Sifu Grant Buchanan. Scott is a local family man and father of three. He has been teaching children from the age of five upwards martial arts since the late 80's, and teaches Kids Martial Arts in a safe, friendly, and fun environment.
